Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a wide array of heroes, and a gripping narrative including angels, demons, and sinister influences growing in power within the urban setting.
Note: Spoilers for the latest installment of the new season follow below.
The Soldiers Table Unveiled
The latest chapter finished on a dramatic pause and revealed the initial group of adventurers who will separate from the primary party to undertake their independent quest, apart from the remaining groups.
The combat-focused team features Teor Pridesire (played by Travis Willingham), Thimble (the talented performer), the strong-willed figure (Whitney), Wicander (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (the actor).
Why Split the Party?
Considering 13 cast members, it was evident from the beginning that keeping everyone at one table would be impossible.
That’s why, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Introduction, intertwining the personal journeys before branching into three separate parties: Soldiers, Planners, and Questers.
Characteristics of the Warrior Group
As described by the Dungeon Master, the combat-focused party is for adventurers who are drawn to a traditionally charged combat and conflict-driven narrative style where non-violent answers are scarce.
Initially, figures such as the reluctant priest the cleric might seem unsuited, but the events of the latest installment demonstrate why these particular heroes are ideally matched for the combat party.
Reasons to Leave
First, the group understands precisely where to go next after a brutal initial meeting with the enemy group.
A former ally of the deceased character—whose passing kicked off the story’s plot—manipulated the enemy for his selfish purposes, breaking into Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting the character, and swiping all the magical artifacts to auction.
The traitor then cleared his obligations and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in the remote area, north of Dol-Makjar, with Cyd pursuing him.
Personal Motivations
Moreover, each character has a personal reason to leave the city the metropolitan area:
- The agile hero, as the companion and best friend, wants vengeance.
- The knowledgeable figure is familiar with Timmony and warns that it is a nasty place.
- Tyranny and The cleric, having defied his family’s wishes to kill Teor and instead rescued him, have nowhere else to go.
- However, their reputation as key figures in the powerful family could enable the team access areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Furthermore, The grateful character swore a life debt to Wicander for his rescue and will now go with him wherever.
Pursued by Authorities
Lastly, all of them are sought by the rulers that control the city for a multiple motives, making lingering locally dangerous:
- The agile adventurer and Kattigan are notorious outlaws.
- The strong figure and The cleric turned against the influential house and the legion of demons they are partnered with.
- The target is wanted dead by the clan.
This leaves them few options but to travel to Timmony in quest for Casimir.
