It has been 30 anniversary after the original Toy Story movie debuted, launching the animation giant as a major animation studio and introducing audiences to beloved figures like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now household names.

In 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed recently, providing a glimpse into the storyline but keeping fans wondering how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Gang

The preview shows the young girl — who received the toy collection when he grew up — receiving a brand new plaything, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. Bonnie gets her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.

Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the toys appear to consider it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it probably is.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

An element the trailer doesn't touch on is what the sheriff is back with his friends in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a new adventure with Bo Peep (the actress), traveling with a carnival and helping prize toys find good homes.

Surely, the filmmakers will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him show up in Bonnie's room without warning is somewhat puzzling, however. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have come back with Woody. And where is Duke Caboom (the star)?

Continuity from the Previous Film

Fortunately, some aspects are continuing from the earlier movie. The last thing the cowboy did before departing for his new life was hand over his sheriff badge to Jessie (Joan Cusack), entrusting her as the leader of the toy domain. The clip shows the badge attached to her outfit.

Hopefully she is still the driving force among the group.

Toy Story 5 debuts on the scheduled date.
